Today I and Nalin went to a factory to check an expired CNC machine. They bought that for approximately 3 million Sri lankan Rupees. (SLR 108=1 $) but after 2 weeks that machine was completely dead. No service manual or error debugging systems were given. (Made 1986). Supplier also dosen't give the support. Now what will happen to those 3 million rupees? We can rebuild all interface cards locally and give a live again to that iron man. It is other story.
The problem is when we (Sri Lanka) have talent to give technology locally why we go to foreign sellers with high budget. I think that is UNLUCK of Sri Lanka and all Sri Lankans. ;-(
eventhough we repair those damage cards, we have another three bad points.
- the machine was older than 20 years. So can have electronic problems at any time
- When we going to repair those damages, we cannot find the replacement components. Because entire components are unique to that machine.
- We should limit to 1986 technology.
Then what are the options available for this problem.
- The one and only thing is developing the interface card locally to give the all facilities which given by manufacture.
If we do this we have more advantages
- We can resolve any electronics problems. Because that is our own design.
- The entire replacement components are very low cost and NOT RARE. (common)
- We reach more customer requirement (customization) other than factory build (new technol0gy that 1986) such as computer interface, MIS data feeding, production report etc...)
Now think Why we are going to overseas for technology
